Our Mission
Our Mission is defined by the people that walk by us each day. The person in line ahead of us at Wegman’s or the coach of your kid’s little league team.
Mission is about:
Engaging culture with the Gospel.
Serving & loving people.
Understanding how to live out the Gospel in our community.
People are the mission, not in a broad sense, but in a personal, one on one sense. Anyone could claim to love a city or town. But what about loving your neighbor? Not the concept, the actually person. The one on your left and right. The person.
Our God, the God of the Bible, is a generous, loving God. He sent Jesus to be the first missionary, to rescue us from sorrow and despair, sin and death. And now, we are sent by Jesus to share the Gospel (the message of His advent, life, death and resurrection) with others. John 20.21 says “As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.”
Jesus is our example of a great missionary. He became like us, lived where we lived, ate what we ate, worked where we worked. He understands us, can sympathize with our weaknesses, yet He did not sin. (Hebrews 4.15)
We are sent to live for this mission, everyone of us. To label one Christian a “missionary” and another not is just plain silly. All Christians are to be missionaries, there are no exclusions, no true believer can opt out. We must pursue being a good missionary like Jesus.
We don’t have this all figured out, not even close. There are so many questions to answer.
What does a good missionary look like?
How does a good missionary spend money?
How does a good missionary invest their time?
What would our church, our community, our neighborhoods look like if everyone lived for this mission?
Many in our culture today will never walk through the doors of a church, so how do we go to them?
To be continued…
