Our Story
Kingsway Church began in 1925 as a small group of believers who gathered in Camden, New Jersey under the leadership of Vincent Tenaglia. One year later, Rev. Joseph Miccoli became the first pastor of the fledgling congregation. As the group grew, they purchased a building in Camden in December 1937.
After the death of Pastor Miccoli in 1938, Rev. Joseph Tessitore became the pastor and led the church for four years as it continued to grow and experience the presence of the Lord. Then Rev. Anthony Caprino became pastor and shepherded Kingsway until September 1953.
1953 to 1968 saw great growth for Kingsway. Under the leadership of Rev. Alfred Perna (1953-1958) and Rev. Aldo Maselli (1959-1968), Kingsway became more involved in world missions giving and purchased property adjacent to the facilities to house the growing Sunday School Department.
In March 1969, Rev. Joseph Beretta became the pastor and led the church to its current location at 2701 Chapel Avenue in Cherry Hill. Our present sanctuary was built in February 1977. In 1981, after 12 years of faithful and effective service at Kingsway, Pastor Beretta was elected the Assistant Superintendent of the New Jersey District Council of the Assemblies of God.
From 1982 to 1998, Kingsway flourished under the leadership of four different Senior Pastors: Rev. Everett Forner (1982-1985), Rev. Harry Snook (1985-1989), Rev. James Barco (1989-1992), and Rev. Fred Chilton (1992-1998). Each served faithfully until the Lord led them to another place of ministry.
Rev. Ray Tate became the pastor in July 1999. Under his leadership, Kingsway developed a strong emphasis on worship, relevant Bible teaching, and relationships which are cultivated in small groups. Life Groups (Kingsway small groups) became the heartbeat of this thriving community; a place where those who follow Christ can grow in their relationship with God and with one another.
Under Pastor Tate’s ministry, REVO Youth Church began, led by Associate Pastor Bryon White. Meeting on Friday nights, REVO sought to connect student to God and to one another. When Pastor Tate resigned in April 2009 to bring leadership and life to a dying church on the Jersey shore, Pastor Bryon was chosen to serve as the next senior pastor of Kingsway.
Throughout the 87-year history of Kingsway, Jesus has accomplished much through this local church. Our story continues to be written through the lives of the men, women, students, and children, who have been saved by Jesus and have committed themselves to His mission.
Kingsway is a multi-cultural and multi-generational church, located 10 minutes across the Delaware River from Philadelphia.
